Hanging on Windows splash screen

Boot to Safemode on startup ( Press F8 key before Windows Splash Screen) and type MSCONFIG, remove ticks from Autoexec.bat and Config.sys, click on ok and reboot. You should now be able to access windows.

If you have difficulty with the above then, use your windows 98 boot disk, and boot up with it, select command prompt only and when at the A: prompt type the following

  • C:         <enter>

  • rename autoexec.bat autoexec.bak       <enter>

  • rename config.sys config.bak       <enter>

  • now press "CTRL ALT & DELETE" on keyboard to restart your computer
