In device manager highlight the device you want to reinstall, ((Communications port COM 2 in this example) the device you want to refresh may not be working or have an exclamation mark beside it) select remove and confirm removal by clicking ok, this device will then be removed from device manager.

Now click on “Refresh” in device manager

Windows will find new hardware

On this occasion a Communication Port.

Windows will install Driver, and operation is complete.

Now test the device. This option can be very handy, and can resolve alot of problems very quickly.
